The Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet Wednesday in MLB action from Dodger Stadium. This will be the finale in a three-game series. Washington Nationals

The Nationals coughed up all six runs in the fifth inning during the Monday opener, falling 6-1 in the end. On Tuesday Washington gave up three in both the third and eighth innings during a 9-3 win. Starter Jake Irvin finished with 5.0 innings, four earned, eight hits and a walk.

For the Wednesday starter job the Nationals will go with Patrick Corbin. In his 11 starts so far Corbin is 4-5 with a 4.88 ERA and 40 Ks in 62.2 innings. Corbin is 91-109 with a 4.33 ERA in 289 career games (271 starts).

Los Angeles Dodgers

Over on the Dodgers’ side, they posted six team hits (and gave up six on the other side) in the win Monday. In game two LA out-hit the Nats 13-6 in the victory. Tony Gonsolin went 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on three hits and two walks.

Noah Syndergaard will take the mound for the Dodgers on Wednesday. Over his 10 starts this year Syndergaard is 1-4 with a 6.27 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 47.1 total frames. Syndergaard is 58-45 with a 3.57 career ERA in 156 games (154 starts).

The Nationals are 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games and 26-54 in the last 80 in game three of a series. Washington is 40-96 in their last 136 versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 100-48 in the last 148 overall and 30-14 in their last 44 in game three of a series. LA is 18-7 in their last 25 Wednesday games.

I’ll stick with the Nationals as something of a value play here. Both starters could use a good outing, though. Corbin gave up six earned in 6.1 innings versus KC in his last start, but still got the win. Corbin is 3-0 in in his last trio, going at least 6.0 frames in each. As for Syndergaard, he gave up six earned in 6.0 innings in a loss to Tampa Bay his last time up, but was pitching slightly better in his previous pair. On Tuesday Washington couldn’t find much success offensively and they’ve given up a whopping 15 runs in this series so far. The Nats need to stop the bleeding, and I think they’ll do it in the finale.
