The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Miami Marlins meet Sunday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the finale in a three-game weekend series. The Marlins took a four-run win in the opener, then on Saturday Miami kept it up with a close victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks were out-hit 11-6 in the Friday opener of this series, limping to a 5-1 loss. On Saturday in game two Arizona had an early lead but couldn’t find much luck on six team hits in a 3-2 loss. Ryne Nelson managed 6.0 frames in the start with one earned on five hits.

For the starter job in the Sunday finale, the Diamondbacks will send out Zac Gallen. In his three starts so far this year Gallen is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA and 21 Ks in 17.2 innings. He’s 23-23 in his career with a 3.15 ERA in 84 starts total.

Miami Marlins

Over on the Marlins’ side, they scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning during game one but couldn’t get much going otherwise. On Saturday Miami scored twice in the seventh to take the lead for good. Starter Braxton Garrett lasted 5.2 innings with one earned on four hits and a walk.

Sandy Alcantara will make the start for the Marlins on Sunday. Across his three starts so far this year Alcantara is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA. He’s got 11 Ks in 18.2 innings. Alcantara is 35-44 with a 3.17 ERA in his career over 121 games (113 starts).

The Diamondbacks are 48-104 in their last 152 road games and the under is 4-1 in their last five Sunday games. Arizona is 2-6 in their last eight versus the NL East.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are 3-7 in their last 10 Sunday games and 5-1 in their last six in game three of a series. The under is 3-1-1 in Miami’s last five Sunday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay with the Diamondbacks here. Gallen had some trouble over his first two starts of the year with 11 combined earned runs in 10.2 innings. That said, Gallen is coming off 7.0 clean frames in a win over Milwaukee. As for Alcantara, he posted nine earned in 4.0 innings in Philly during his last start—he should bounce back and pitch much better here, though. On Saturday Arizona had a pretty darn good game outside of half the seventh inning. The Diamondbacks got a hit from six different players, so it wasn’t too bad of an offensive performance overall. I think Arizona has a great chance in game three.
