In this article we will formulate a Miami Marlins vs Colorado Rockies prediction for this MLB game on Thursday, May 2nd at loanDepot park in Miami, Florida. Let’s take a look at the prediction for game three in the series.

Will Miami Bring out the Brooms?

The Miami Marlins are 8-24 this year and they have lost seven of their last nine games. Miami has won the first two games in this series by scores of 7-6 and 4-1. Prior to this series, the Marlins were swept in four games by the Nationals and swept in three games by the Braves. Miami has been one of the worst teams in the MLB to start this season, but they have a chance at a rare sweep here. The Marlins are last in the NL East, behind Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, and the Mets.

The Miami pitching staff has a 4.80 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP, and a .260 opponent batting average. The Marlins offense has scored 115 runs with a .223 batting average and a .281 on base percentage. Bryan De La Cruz is batting .262 with five home runs and 16 RBI’s for the Marlins this year. Miami has allowed at least five runs in five of their last eight games.

Rockies are Looking to Snap Losing Streak

The Colorado Rockies are 7-23 this season and they have lost four games in a row and seven of their last nine. Prior to dropping the first two games in this series, Colorado was swept by Houston in two games, split a four game series with the Padres, and lost two out of three against the Mariners. Colorado is still searching for their first series win of the season.

The Colorado pitching staff has a 6.00 ERA, a 1.62 WHIP, and a .294 opponent batting average. The Rockies offense has scored 113 runs with a .241 batting average and a .304 on base percentage. Ryan McMahon is batting .324 with four home runs and 18 RBI’s for the Rockies this year. Colorado has the worst team ERA in the MLB this season and they have allowed 40 runs in their last five games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Miami is Edward Cabrera, who is 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP over 15.1 innings pitched this year. Cabrera has allowed nine earned runs and 16 hits over three starts this year (15.1 IP). The projected starting pitcher for Colorado is Peter Lambert, who is 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP over 15.1 innings pitched this season. Lambert has been mostly used as a relief pitcher this year, but he did allow six earned runs and six hits over 3.0 innings in his last start against Seattle on April 21st. I know neither team has been very strong with their pitching this season, but I don’t trust anyone on the Colorado pitching staff.

Miami Marlins Team Facts

  • The Marlins have lost each of their last seven day games against teams that held a losing record.
  • The Marlins have failed to cover the run line in each of their last nine day games against NL West opponents following a home win.
  • The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the last eight day games between the Rockies and Marlins at LoanDepot Park.
  • The Marlins have trailed after 5 innings in four of their last five games as favorites against National League opponents.

Colorado Rockies Team Facts

  • The Rockies have lost each of their last 10 road games after playing the previous day.
  • The Rockies have failed to cover the run line seven of their last eight games against teams that held a losing record.
  • The Rockies have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last seven day games against opponents that held a losing record.
  • The Rockies have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last four day games against opponents that held a losing record.
  • The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Rockies’ last eight day games at LoanDepot Park.

Miami Marlins vs Colorado Rockies Prediction

These two teams are the bottom two teams in the National League standings and they aren’t even close to the third worst team in the league. Miami has won the first two games in this series, but they are just 4-15 at home. Both offenses are in the bottom third of the MLB in runs scored, but Colorado’s pitching has been terrible to start this season. The Rockies have a team ERA of 6.00 and a WHIP of 1.62, and we have seen the results of those terrible numbers in recent games. I don’t love taking the run line with a bad team, but my Miami Marlins vs Colorado Rockies prediction is for the Marlins win by at least two runs.
