The Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins meet Saturday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game weekend series. In the Friday opener, Miami took a commanding win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Philadelphia played the Nationals this week, logging a three-game sweep with wins 7-4, 12-6 and 7-6. In the Friday game versus Miami, the Phillies gave up seven runs in the sixth inning during a 10-3 defeat. Kyle Gibson put up 5.1 innings with eight earned runs on two walks and eight hits.
For the starter gig in the Saturday game two, Philly will send out Ranger Suarez. Across his 67.0 innings this year Suarez has 43 hits, 15 runs (11 earned), three homers allowed, 27 walks, 65 Ks, four saves and a 1.48 ERA.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they played a pair versus the Mets this week, losing both 3-1 and 4-3. In the Friday game, Miami had 10 hits in the big victory. Jesus Luzardo lasted 5.2 innings with three earned on two walks and five hits.
For the starting pitcher job in the Saturday matchup, the Marlins will go with Trevor Rogers. So far this year Rogers is 7-6 with a 2.45 ERA and 129 Ks.
The Phillies are 20-7 in their last 27 versus the NL East and 9-4 in their last 13 Saturday games. The under is 5-0 in Philly’s last five Saturday games and the over is 8-3 in their last 11 versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 4-9 in their last 13 in game two of a series and 6-22 in their last 28 versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. The under is 4-1 in Miami’s last five in game two of a series as well.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Philly. Suarez has looked pretty good in his last four outings—aside from 4.2 innings with eight hits, four walks and three earned versus the Diamondbacks. In the other three games, Suarez has just three earned runs on five walks and 14 hits in 16.1 innings of work. I like another good start out of Suarez here in an eventual Philadelphia victory.
