The Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates meet Thursday in MLB action from PNC Park. The Brewers are coming off a series versus the Cubs this week. Milwaukee won the first pair in that set, then on Wednesday the Brewers managed an eight-run victory. As for the Pirates, they played the Rockies this week. Pittsburgh lost the first two games in that series, then in the finale Wednesday the Pirates fell again by four runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Milwaukee got a series win versus the Cubs this week, posting victories 14-4 Monday and 2-1 on Tuesday. In the Wednesday finale, the Brewers posted 12 hits on the way to a 15-7 win. Aaron Ashby lasted just 0.2 innings with four earned on four hits and three walks, however.
For the starter job in the Thursday game, Milwaukee will send out Corbin Burnes. Over his 74.2 innings this year Burnes has 55 hits, 23 runs (21 earned), two homers allowed, 14 walks, 115 strikeouts and a 2.53 ERA.
Over on the Pirates’ side, they lost to the Rockies 2-0 on Monday and 8-0 in the Tuesday game. In the Wednesday finale, Pittsburgh lost again 6-2. Chad Kuhl gave up three earned on five hits and three walks in 4.1 innings.
For the starter gig in the Thursday opener, the Pirates are sending out Wil Crowe. In his 45.2 innings this year Crowe has 52 hits, 33 earned runs, 11 homers allowed, 22 walks, 40 strikeouts and a 6.50 ERA.
The Brewers are 17-4 in their last 21 with the total set at 7.0-8.5 and 8-3 in their last 11 in game one of a series. The under is 18-7-1 in the Brewers’ last 26 Thursday games and the over is 15-6-3 in their last 24 on the road with a total of 9.0-10.5.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 13-6 in their last 19 Thursday games and 8-18 in their last 26 versus a right-handed starter. Pittsburgh is 32-80 in their last 112 versus a team with a winning record and the over is 5-0 in their last five Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with the Brewers. Crowe has a couple of decent starts over his last few outings, but he was sketchy in his most recent appearance versus the Cardinals. He put up four earned on eight hits, two homers and two walks over 5.0 innings in that one. As for Burnes, he’s coming off 6.0 innings with one earned on three hits versus the Rockies. I like Burnes to put up a solid outing for Milwaukee in this one on the way to a win.
