In this article we will formulate a Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates prediction for this MLB game on Monday, May 13th at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Let’s take a look at the prediction for game one in this series.

Milwaukee Finding Their Offense

The Milwaukee Brewers are 24-16 this season and they have won four of their last six games. Milwaukee is coming off of a series win against St. Louis, where they won three out of four games and out scored them 26-7. Prior to that series, the Brewers lost two out of three against Kansas City, lost two out of three against Chicago, and won two out of three against Tampa Bay. Milwaukee has been a little up and down recently, but they are leading the NL Central over the Cubs.

The Milwaukee pitching staff has a 3.93 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and a .244 opponent batting average. The Brewers offense has scored 203 runs with a .254 batting average and a .334 on base percentage. Willy Adames is batting .258 with seven home runs and 27 RBI’s for the Brewers this season. Milwaukee is sixth in runs scored this year and they have scored at least four runs in five of their last six games.

Pirates Have Lost Two Straight Series

The Pittsburgh Pirates are 18-23 this year and they have lost four of their last five games. Pittsburgh is coming off of a series loss against the Cubs, where they lost two out of three games and allowed 21 runs in three games. Prior to that series, the Pirates lost two out of three against the Angels, won two out of three against Colorado, and were swept by the Athletics. Pittsburgh has only won one of their last eight series and they are currently third in the NL Central behind the Brewers and Cubs.

The Pittsburgh pitching staff has a 3.86 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and a .236 opponent batting average. The Pirates offense has scored 150 runs with a .222 batting average and a .304 on base percentage. Oneil Cruz is batting .265 with seven home runs and 17 RBI’s for the Pirates this season. Pittsburgh is 14th in team ERA this year, but they have allowed at least five runs in five straight games.

Starting Pitchers

The projected starting pitcher for Pittsburgh is Mitch Keller, who is 3-3 with a 4.41 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP over 49.0 innings pitched this season. Keller has allowed three earned runs or more in three of his last four starts, but did allow one earned run and five hits over 9.0 innings against the Angels in his last start. The projected starting pitcher for Milwaukee is Colin Rea, who is 3-0 with a 3.29 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP over 38.1 innings pitched this year. Rea has allowed 4, 0, 5, and 0 earned runs in his last four starts, so you never know what you are going to get from him.

Why the Milwaukee Brewers will win

  • The Brewers have won each of their last 11 night games against the Pirates at American Family Field following a loss.
  • The Pirates have lost eight of their last nine road games.
  • The Pirates have failed to cover the run line in eight of their last nine road games.
  • The Brewers have covered the run line each of their last four night games against teams that held a losing record.
  • The Pirates have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last four road games.

Why the Pittsburgh Pirates will win

  • The Pirates have won four of their last five games as underdogs against NL Central opponents following a loss.
  • The Brewers have lost each of their last four Monday games as favorites.
  • The Pirates have covered the run line in seven of their last eight night games against NL Central opponents.
  • The Brewers have failed to cover the run line in each of their last six games as favorites against National League opponents following a loss.
  • The Pirates have led after 5 innings in four of their last six games as underdogs against NL Central opponents.

Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction

Milwaukee comes into this series with a 10-8 record at home and they are currently leading the NL Central standings. The Brewers haven’t been their best at home, while Pittsburgh is just 9-11 on the road. The Pirates have really struggled with their pitching in the last five games and they will take on a hot Milwaukee offense here. Mitch Keller is coming off of a strong start for the Pirates, but his season numbers are pretty poor. Colin Rea has been super inconsistent this season, so we don’t know what to expect from him. I don’t love this matchup, but my Milwaukee Brewers vs Pittsburgh Pirates prediction is for the Brewers to get the home win.
