Brewers Preview

The Milwaukee Brewers were 16-15 during Spring Training and they will look to start 2024 off on the right foot with a win here. The Brewers offense was decent during the Spring, as they scored 183 runs, while giving up 175. The Milwaukee offense will be under the microscope once again this season, as they have underperformed in recent seasons. On the other hand, the Brewers pitching staff has consistently been one of the best in baseball, so we will see if they can continue that this season. The projected starting pitcher for Milwaukee is Freddy Peralta, who was 12-10 last season with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP over 165.2 innings pitched. The Brewers will meet the Twins and Mariners after this series.

Mets Preview

The New York Mets were 15-14 in Spring Training this year and they will try to bounce back from a very disappointing season in 2023. The Mets finished last season with a 75-87 record, which was good for fourth in the NL East. The New York offense was inconsistent last season, but they have a pretty solid lineup heading into this year, led by Pete Alonso. Just like the hitting, the New York pitching staff was inconsistent in 2023 and they finished in the bottom half of the MLB in ERA. The projected starting pitcher for New York is Jose Quintana, who was 3-6 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over 75.2 innings pitched last season. The Mets will face the Royals, Reds, and Braves after this series.

New York Mets Team Facts

  • The Mets have won each of their last nine Friday day games.
  • The underdogs have covered the run line in five of the Mets’ last six games.
  • The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Mets’ last three games.
  • The Mets have led after 7 innings in each of their last eight season openers against National League opponents.

Milwaukee Brewers Team Facts

  • The Brewers have won five of their last six games as underdogs against the Mets.
  • The Brewers have covered the run line in each of their last 10 games as road underdogs.
  • The Brewers have won the first inning in each of their last three games against National League opponents.
  • The Brewers have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last four day games against NL East opponents.
  • The ‘Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Brewers’ last six games as underdogs against NL East opponents.

Brewers vs Mets Betting Prediction

Both of these teams come into this season with plenty of optimism, but can New York bounce back from a really rough 2023 season? I don’t love Quintana on the mound for the Mets, but he did put up some decent numbers last year. For the Brewers, Freddy Peralta was very good and he was able to pitch over 165 innings, which he is going to have to do again this year if the Brewers want to contend. This game is a toss up in my opinion, but I am going to fade the Milwaukee bats until they show me they can hit. Take the Mets at home here.
