The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees meet Saturday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. This will be the third installment in a four-game weekend rivalry series. The Yankees eked out a win in the Thursday opener, then on Friday New York took another tight victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Boston had a 4-3 lead late in the Thursday game, but ultimately fell 5-4 in 10 innings. On Friday in game two, the Red Sox were down 4-1 before making a game of it in an eventual 5-4 defeat. Rich Hill gave up four earned in 5.0 innings with five hits and two walks in the start.

Starter for Saturday’s matchup will be Nick Pivetta. Over his 30 starts so far Pivetta is 10-11 with a 4.35 ERA. In 165.2 innings total he has 80 earned on 63 walks and 159 hits with 160 Ks.

Over on the Yankees’ side, they out-hit the Red Sox 9-8 in the Thursday victory. On Friday, New York had three runs in the fifth on the way to seven team hits. Gerrit Cole posted 6.0 innings in the start with four earned on five hits and two walks.

Domingo German will make the start for the Yankees on Saturday. In his 12 games (11 starts) this year German is 2-3 with a 3.12 ERA. In 57.2 innings total he has 20 earned on 52 hits and 14 walks with 41 Ks.

The Red Sox are 4-1 in the last five Saturday games and 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series. Boston is 17-39 in the last 56 versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 1-4 in their last five Saturday games and 50-19 in their last 69 at home. New York is 36-16 in their last 52 versus a team with a losing record.

PICK: I’m going to try the Red Sox. Pivetta has been okay but not great over his last pair of starts, with six earned on 13 hits and four walks in 10.1 innings. If he can get a quality outing going here, the Sox should be in good shape. As for German, he’s got 2.2 clean innings over his last two appearances with one hit and two walks. It’ll be interesting to see how long he stays out there. Should be another good one.
