The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees meet Tuesday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. Chicago is fresh off a weekend series versus the Tigers, taking a three-game sweep. Chicago White Sox

The White Sox were able to handle the Tigers in their last series, taking wins 3-0 Friday, 2-1 Saturday and 6-2 in the finale. On Sunday, Chicago starter Michael Kopech finished with 7.0 innings, two earned, three hits and a walk.

For the starter job in the Tuesday matchup, the White Sox will send out Lucas Giolito. In his 12 starts this year Giolito is 4-4 with a 4.08 ERA and 69 Ks in 68.1 innings. Giolito is 57-51 with a 4.31 ERA in 159 career games (157 starts).

New York Yankees

Over on the Yankees’ side, they lost to the Dodgers 8-4 in the Friday opener of their series but then came back for wins 6-3 and 4-1. Starting pitcher Domingo German lasted 6.2 innings with one earned on four hits and a walk in the finale.

Clarke Schmidt will take the start for the Yankees on Tuesday. Over 12 starts so far Schmidt is 2-5 with a 5.01 ERA and 65 strikeouts over 55.2 innings.

The White Sox are 5-0 in their last five Tuesday games and 4-1 in their last five overall. Chicago is 8-18 in their last 26 after a win.

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 8-2 in their last 10 after a win and 6-2 in their last eight overall. New York is 44-17 in their last 61 Tuesday games.

I’ll stay with the Yankees in this one. Schmidt is pitching well right now. He’s got just three earned over 15.2 innings on 13 hits and five walks in his last three starts combined. As for Giolito, he’s given up seven earned over his last 8.2 innings in two starts on 10 hits and nine walks. I do like Giolito to pitch well here also (he’s 2-1 in his last three) but New York seems a better winning play.
