The Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres meet Sunday in MLB action from Petco Park. This will be the finale in a four-game weekend series. Colorado took the first two installments, then on Saturday in game three San Diego got a four-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies didn’t have a ton of trouble in the Thursday opener of this set, winning 7-2. Colorado followed that up with a 4-1 win on Friday. In the Saturday game the Rockies were down 4-0 by the end of the third in an 8-4 defeat. Starter Jose Urena went 2.1 innings with four earned on five hits and four walks.

As the starter for the Sunday finale, the Rockies will go with Austin Gomber. Last season Gomber went 5-7 over 33 games (17 starts). In 124.2 innings he managed 95 strikeouts and a 5.56 ERA. Gomber is a career 21-19 pitcher with a 4.66 ERA.

San Diego Padres

Over on the Padres’ side, they gave up a whopping 17 hits in the Thursday game and followed that up with nine more surrendered on Friday. In the Saturday matchup, San Diego out-hit the Rockies 10-6. Michael Wacha managed 6.0 innings, four earned, six hits and three walks in the start.

Seth Lugo will start the game for the Padres on Sunday. Over 62 games (no starts) last year Lugo was 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA. In 65.0 innings he logged 69 strikeouts and a 1.17 WHIP. Lugo has a 32-24 career record with a 3.48 ERA.

The Rockies are 25-53 in their last 78 road games and 4-9 in their last 13 Sunday games. The under is 5-1 in their last six in game four of a series.

Meanwhile, the Padres are 20-8 in their last 28 in game four of a series and 2-5 in their last seven versus a lefty starter. The over is 6-2-1 in San Diego’s last nine versus the NL West.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably lean toward the Padres. Also probably staying away due to the thick line, though. San Diego didn’t start out that well over the first couple of games in this series. Lugo should post a pretty good start here, though. He managed six starts with a 1-1 record this spring. In that time Lugo had a 2.70 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 23.1 innings of work. On Saturday San Diego was in the driver’s seat for most of the game, and if they can keep the bats going here I like the Padres to even things up.
