Baltimore Orioles Betting Preview

The Orioles played a series versus the Kansas City Royals this week and did fairly well. Baltimore lost Tuesday 4-1 but otherwise took wins 6-4 and 4-3. On Friday versus the Pirates, the O’s powered out a 5-2 win thanks to 12 team hits. Gunnar Henderson (two hits; two runs), Ryan O’Hearn (two hits) and Cedric Mullins each had a solo homer in the victory.

In the starting pitcher slot for the Saturday game, the Orioles will send out Tyler Wells. In his first start of the year versus the Angels, Wells took a loss with three earned in 6.0 frames. In his career, Wells is 16-17 with a 3.97 ERA in 93 games (44 starts).

Pittsburgh Pirates Betting Preview

Over on the Pirates’ side, they played the Washington Nationals in their last series and only won one of three games. (That win came 5-3 Wednesday). In the Friday matchup, Pittsburgh had six team hits, but only three players had them. Oneil Cruz was the top performer with a solo homer and a 3-for-4 line.

Bailey Falter will take the mound for the starting pitcher slot on Saturday. In his first outing of the season versus Miami, Falter took a no-decision with six earned in 4.0 frames. Falter has a 10-14 career record with a 4.94 ERA in 61 games (32 starts).

Pittsburgh Pirates Team Facts

  • The Pirates have lost each of their last nine Saturday games against AL East opponents.
  • The Pirates have covered the run line in nine of their last 10 day games following a loss.
  • The Pirates have trailed after 7 innings in each of their last five Saturday games against AL East opponents that held a winning record.
  • The ‘Inning 1 UNDER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Pirates’ last four day games at PNC Park.

Baltimore Orioles Team Facts

  • The Orioles have won each of their last seven Saturday road games.
  • The Orioles have failed to cover the run line in each of their last four games as favorites against NL Central opponents following a road win.
  • The Orioles have trailed after 7 innings in four of their last six games as favorites against NL Central opponents.
  • The Orioles have lost the first inning in three of their last four games as road favorites against NL Central opponents.
  • The Orioles have led after 3 innings in each of their last six road day games.

Orioles vs Pirates Prediction

I’ll lean toward the Orioles here. Wells had a reasonably solid start in his first outing of the year with 6.0 innings, three earned, five hits, no walks and seven strikeouts versus the Angels. He would end up taking the loss however, as Baltimore scored just one run in that game.

On Friday the Orioles had a very productive offensive day (despite not drawing any walks). Only two batters (Jordan Westburg and Austin Hays) came up empty at the plate, and the bullpen backed them up on 2.2 innings, no hits, no walks, no earned and five Ks. I like the O’s to keep it hot in game two.
