The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers meet Wednesday in MLB action from Globe Life Field. This will be the finale in a quick two-game series this week. On Tuesday in the opener the Rangers posted a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks took on the Rockies over the weekend, winning the first pair before a 12-4 loss Sunday. On Tuesday Arizona blew an early 4-1 lead in a 6-4 defeat. Zac Gallen put up 5.0 innings in the start with three earned on seven hits.
For the starter job in the Wednesday game the Diamondbacks will call up Brandon Pfaadt for his MLB debut. Pfaadt is the Diamondbacks’ number-three prospect.
Texas Rangers
Over on the Rangers’ side, they played the Yankees over the weekend and won three of four games. On Tuesday Texas notched five runs between the fifth and seventh innings in the comeback. Starter Jon Gray finished with 5.1 innings, four earned, eight hits and one walk.
Andrew Heaney will take the starting role for the Rangers on Wednesday. Over his five starts so far Heaney is 2-2 with a 4.38 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 24.2 innings. Heaney is 38-44 with a 4.55 ERA over 142 games (131 starts) in his career.
The Diamondbacks are 6-2 in their last eight interleague games and 9-4 in their last 13 in game two of a series. Arizona is 19-48 in their last 67 road games versus a lefty starter.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 7-15 in their last 22 in game two of a series and 17-38 in their last 55 versus the NL West. Texas is 12-29 in their last 41 Wednesday games.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with the Rangers here. It’ll be interesting to see what Pfaadt can do in his MLB debut, though. Heaney has done pretty well over his last three games. He’s got a combined five earned in 17.0 innings on 11 hits and six walks, going 1-1 in that time. Heaney should post a solid outing here as well. In the Tuesday game Texas ended up posting a pretty solid offensive day, and the bullpen logged 3.2 innings with just one hit, three walks and two strikeouts. It was a nice all-around performance from the Rangers. I like them to keep it up in game two.
