The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Colorado Rockies meet Wednesday in MLB action from Coors Field. This will be the finale in a three-game series this week. The Pirates took a blowout win in the opener, then in game two Pittsburgh kept it going with another victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates scored a whopping nine runs across the first three innings on Monday, cruising to a 14-3 blowout win. On Tuesday Pittsburgh scored four in the fourth inning on the way to a 5-3 victory. Vince Velasquez put up 6.0 frames in the start with three earned on five hits and three walks.

For the starter job in the Wednesday matchup, the Pirates will send out Johan Oviedo. Over three starts this year Oviedo is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 19 Ks in 18.1 innings. Oviedo is 5-12 with a 4.13 ERA in 43 career games (29 starts).

Colorado Rockies

Over on the Colorado side, they were out-hit 16-10 in the Monday loss—and committed a pair of errors along the way. On Tuesday the Rockies out-hit Pittsburgh 10-9 and blew an early 3-0 lead. Starter Jose Urena finished with 4.2 innings, five earend, seven hits and two walks.

It’ll be Austin Gomber in the start for the Rockies on Wednesday. Over his three starts so far Gomber is 0-3 with an 8.16 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 14.1 innings. He’s 21-22 with a 4.80 ERA in 102 games (58 starts) during his career.

The Pirates are 5-2 in their last seven versus a lefty starter and 26-56 in their last 82 in game three of a series. Pittsburgh is 21-50 in their last 71 Wednesday games.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are 9-24 in their last 33 overall and 7-19 in their last 26 Wednesday games. Colorado is 6-20 in their last 26 in game three of a series.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m staying with Pittsburgh. Oviedo had a rocky debut this year (4.2 innings; four earned versus Boston) but since then he’s evened out. Over his last two outings Oviedo is 1-1 with just one earned over 13.2 frames. On Tuesday the Pirates fought back from an early deficit and did a good job at keeping Colorado off the scoreboard for eight innings. I like another solid Pittsburgh performance in this one.
