Cleveland Guardians 

The Guardians took on the Astros this past weekend, winning two of three games. On Tuesday versus the Padres, Cleveland out-hit the Padres 9-8 in a 6-3 loss. Starting pitcher Tanner Bibee lasted 4.0 innings with six earned on eight hits and two walks. 

For the starter job in the Wednesday matchup it’ll be Aaron Civale. This year Civale is 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA in four starts. He has 15 Ks in 23.1 innings. Civale is 26-22 with a 3.97 ERA in 67 starts over his career. 

San Diego Padres 

Over on the Padres’ side, they managed to win two of three from the Rockies over the weekend. On Tuesday San Diego scored five across the first two innings on the way to the win. Joe Musgrove went 6.0 innings with three earned on seven hits and a walk in the start. 

Michael Wacha will make the Wednesday start for the Padres. Over his 12 starts this year Wacha is 6-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 64 Ks in 68.0 innings. Wacha is 80-52 with a 4.00 ERA in 237 career games (216 starts). 

The Guardians are 19-9 in the last 28 Wednesday games and 4-9 in their last 13 interleague games. Cleveland is 1-7 in their last eight in game two of a series. 

Meanwhile, the Padres are 3-9 in their last 12 in game two of a series and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 8-1 in San Diego’s last nine Wednesday games.

I’ll stay with San Diego. We should have a good starter battle here regardless, though. Wacha is coming off 6.0 clean frames with two hits and a walk in a win over Seattle. As for Civale, he’s given up just two earned on eight hits and four walks over 10.2 frames in his last two starts. In the Tuesday matchup the Padres got to Bibee early but couldn’t get anything going versus the Guardians bullpen (4.0 innings; no hits, no earned; one walk; three Ks). San Diego is going to need to play a complete game here, but I think they’ll be okay.
