The Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres meet in MLB action from Petco Park on Friday night.
The Houston Astros will look to Michael Brantley and Alex Bregman each had two hits while Jose Altuve chipped in a double. Carlos Correa, Yuli Gurriel, Jake Meyers and Martin Maldonado each had base hits to finish off Houston’s offense in the shutout defeat. Jake Odorizzi took the loss, falling to 6-7 on the year after allowing just one run on two hits while striking out seven over five innings of work. The San Diego Padres will try to rebound from an 8-3 loss at the hands of Arizona last time out. All of San Diego’s scoring came via home runs, as Wil Myers had a two-run home run while Trent Grisham had a solo home run. Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Eric Hosmer each had a double to round out the offense for the Padres in defeat. Yu Darvish took the loss, falling to 7-9 after allowing five earned runs on eight hits while striking out three over 2.2 innings of work. Jake Arrieta will start here and is 5-12 with a 7.13 ERA and 77 strikeouts this season.

This line feels a bit weird, but I’m not doing near the Padres in this spot. San Diego’s been struggling to begin with and now send Jake Arrieta to the mound and needless to say, he has not been a pitcher I’d want on my staff this season. We haven’t seen a ton of Jose Urquidy, but he’s been serviceable and the Astros are just the hotter hitting team right now. Give me the Astros here.
