Red Sox Preview

The Boston Red Sox were 19-12 during Spring Training and they scored 151 runs, while allowing 130 runs. Boston had a disappointing finish to their 2023 season, as they went 78-84 and finished fifth in the AL East. The Red Sox were in the playoff race for a while, but they really struggled down the stretch to close out the season. Boston had a pretty solid offensive attack, as they were 11th in runs scored, but they were 21st in team ERA and 20th in team WHIP. The Red Sox didn’t do much during the offseason, so it will be interesting to see if they can improve upon last year’s numbers. The projected starting pitcher for Boston is Brayan Bello, who was 12-11 with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP over 157 innings pitched last year. The Red Sox will meet the A’s after this series.

Mariners Preview

The Seattle Mariners are went 15-13 in Spring Training and they scored 202 runs, while allowing 186 runs. Seattle hit the cover off of the ball during the Spring, but they did not pitch very well. The Mariners went 88-74 in 2023 and they had a very solid season, but they finished one game out of the last wild card spot and only two games out of first in the AL West. Seattle is in one of the toughest divisions in baseball, so there is not much room for error. Seattle had the third best team ERA and was tied for the second best WHIP in the MLB last year, while being 12th in runs scored with 758. I really liked watching Seattle play last season and they should be right in the mix for the AL West once again. The projected starting pitcher for Seattle is Luis Castillo, who was 14-9 with a 3.34 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP over 197 innings pitched last season. The Mariners will take on the Guardians, Brewers, and Blue Jays following this series.

Red Sox vs Mariners Betting Prediction

Seattle comes into this season trying to replicate last season’s success, but they hope to make the postseason this year. The Mariners put up 88 wins in 2023 and were so close to winning the division and/or making a wild card spot. Boston didn’t have a terrible record, but they finished last in the AL East and failed to make many upgrades during the offseason. Bello had a solid season for the Red Sox in 2023, but he did have some rough outings towards the end of the season. I think the Mariners are going to start this season strong and I could see them putting up a big number to open the season here. Take Seattle -1.5 in this game.
