The Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Wednesday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. Here’s a St. Louis Cardinals vs Arizona Diamondbacks prediction. This will be the final installment in a three-game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the game.
Arizona Diamondbacks Betting Preview
The Diamondbacks played the San Francisco Giants in their weekend series. Arizona had mixed results in that one, notching two wins (17-1 and 5-3) against two losses (5-0 and 7-3) for a split. The Diamondbacks would then take a tough 5-3 loss to the Cardinals on Monday. In the Tuesday game Arizona cruised to a blowout win 14-1. Pavin Smith finished with six RBI on two hits with two runs and a homer. Tommy Henry went 6.0 frames in the start with one earned on five hits and a walk.
In the starting pitcher role for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday it’ll be Jordan Montgomery. This year in his lone start Montgomery went 6.0 innings with one earned in a victory. In his career Montgomery is 39-34 with a 3.67 ERA in 142 games (141 starts).
St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they played the Brewers in their last set. St. Louis struggled on offense over the weekend, posting losses 2-1, 12-5 and 2-0. Following their dramatic comeback victory over Arizona on Monday, in game two the Cardinals had just six hits and couldn’t score after the first inning. Steven Matz had seven earned on six hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in the start.
It’ll be Kyle Gibson in the starting pitcher role for the Cardinals on Wednesday. This year so far Gibson is 1-2 with a 5.04 ERA and 14 Ks in 25.0 innings over four starts. Gibson has a 105-102 career record with a 4.55 ERA in 304 games (298 starts).
Diamondbacks vs Cardinals Injury Notes
Diamondbacks SP Merrill Kelly received another MRI on his injured right shoulder (teres major strain) on Monday in Phoenix. RP Paul Sewald (15-day IL) was scheduled to pitch Tuesday with Triple-A Reno.
Cardinals RP Keynan Middleton (forearm) played catch over the weekend. CF Dylan Carlson (shoulder) is expected to be starting a minor-league rehab assignment soon. As for DH Matt Carpenter, he received a platelet-rich plasma injection for his strained right oblique on Monday.
St. Louis Cardinals vs Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction
I’ll stay with the Diamondbacks here. This should be a pretty fun starter matchup, though. Gibson looked great in his first start on April 19 versus the Giants, going 6.0 innings with one earned on four hits and no walks in a victory. As for Gibson, he took a couple of losses early this month with a combined 11 earned in 12.0 frames, but did well in his last outing. Gibson posted 6.0 innings with one earned in a no-decision his last time up against the Brewers.
On Tuesday the Diamondbacks scored sixth runs in the fifth inning along with four in both the third and sixth frames. It was a great effort all around. I like St. Louis to be more competitive in the finale but Arizona should have a legitimate shot at the sweep.
