The Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Monday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a St. Louis Cardinals vs Atlanta Braves Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Atlanta Braves will send out Spencer Schwellenbach for the start here and Schwellenbach is 1-2 with a 4.98 ERA and 19 strikeouts this season. This will be Schwellenbach’s first career start against the Cardinals. The St. Louis Cardinals will send out Lance Lynn for the start here and Lynn is 2-3 with a 4.08 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the Braves, Lynn is 3-2 with a 4.55 ERA and 18 strikeouts.

Atlanta Braves Recap

The Atlanta Braves come into this one looking to build on their series win over the Yankees after picking up a 3-1 win over the Yanks in Sunday’s rubber match. The series win kept Atlanta’s series win streak alive after taking down the Tigers and Rays over the last week and a half.

Braves Rolling At The Dish

Marcell Ozuna leads the Braves with 88 hits including 21 home runs and 64 RBIs while Orlando Arcia has 18 doubles and Ozzie Albies has a team-high 21 doubles, logging 71 hits as well this season. Ronald Acuna Jr. has a team-high 16 stolen bases as well this season but is now out for the season with a torn ACL. Matt Olson has 19 doubles with a team-high 81 strikeouts and Austin Riley has 14 doubles with a pair of triples.

Why the Atlanta Braves will win

  • The Braves have won five of their last six games.
  • The Cardinals have failed to cover the run line in eight of their last nine games against NL East opponents.
  • The Braves have covered the run line in seven of their last eight road games against the Cardinals following a win.

St. Louis Cardinals Recap

The St. Louis Cardinals come into this one looking to build on their sweep of the San Francisco Giants after picking up a 4-3 win over the Cards in Sunday’s series finale. The win was a nice bounce back for the Cardinals, who took a series loss against the Marlins to start the week.

Cardinals Heating Up At The Plate

Nolan Arenado has 70 hits along with 13 doubles and 32 RBIs while Brendan Donovan has a team-high 73 hits and 38 RBIs with 17 doubles. Nolan Gorman has a team-high 16 home runs along with 36 RBIs in addition to 8 doubles while Masyn Winn has a .299 batting average and 8 stolen bases. Paul Goldschmidt also has 97 K’s while Gorman has a team-high 99 strikeouts as well this season.

Why the St. Louis Cardinals will win

  • The Braves have lost each of their last six games as favorites against National League opponents following a win.
  • The Cardinals have won five of their last six games as underdogs after playing the previous day.
  • The Braves have failed to cover the run line in each of their last nine games as favorites against NL Central opponents following a road win.
  • The Cardinals have covered the run line in each of their last six games at Busch Stadium.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Atlanta Braves Prediction

I’m on the Braves here. I know the Cardinals as a home underdog is tempting considering their sweep of the Giants over the weekend, but the Braves’ series win in New York was just as impressive and the Braves are really heating up right now. Not to say the Cards aren’t playing well, but Lance Lynn’s starting again here and Lynn’s been more of a liability than anything else in his starts this season. I think the Braves get to him and get a solid outing from Schwellenbach for the win to start the set.
