The Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals meet Wednesday in MLB action from Busch Stadium. This will be the finale in a quick two-game series. In the Tuesday opener, Milwaukee powered out a win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Milwaukee played the Reds over the weekend, losing Friday before a pair of weekend wins. On Tuesday versus St. Louis, the Brewers posted 11 team hits in an 8-4 victory. Luis Perdomo did most of the pitching with 3.0 innings, one earned and three hits.

For the starter job in the Wednesday game, the Brewers are going with Corbin Burnes. In his 28 starts so far Burnes is 10-6 with a 2.93 ERA. Over 172.0 innings total he has 56 earned, 122 hits, 46 walks and 214 strikeouts.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they also lost their Friday game versus the Pirates but took wins in the other pair for a series victory. On Tuesday, St. Louis couldn’t score after the second inning on six team hits. Starter Jordan Montgomery managed 5.0 innings, four earned, seven hits and a walk.

Adam Wainwright will take the mound for the Cardinals in the Wednesday matchup. In his 28 starts this year Wainwright is 10-9 with a 3.33 ERA. Over 173.0 innings he has 166 hits, 64 earned, 45 walks and 134 strikeouts.

The Brewers are 5-16 in their last 21 road games versus a right-handed starter and the under is 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 5-1 in their last six Wednesday games and 38-16 in their last 54 overall. St. Louis is 53-24 in their last 77 versus the NL Central.

PICK: I’m probably staying with the Cardinals. Both starters could use a good outing here, though. Wainwright has given up eight earned in 10.0 innings on 18 hits and two walks over his last two starts. He’s still 1-0 in that pair, however. As for Burnes, he had a bad run going with 10 earned in 11.2 innings, but came back with a solid 8.0 innings and one earned versus the Giants his last time out. I like both starters to pitch reasonably well in a fun matchup here.
