Texas managed a 5-4 victory over the A’s on Tuesday but ended up falling 3-1 in the Wednesday matchup. On Thursday in the finale, the Rangers managed an 8-3 win on 15 team hits. Starter Dane Dunning went 4.0 innings with three hits, two walks and no earned.
For the Friday starting pitcher role, the Rangers are going with Kyle Gibson on the mound. Over his 90.0 innings this year Gibson has 65 hits, 21 runs (20 earned), six homers allowed, 26 walks, 74 Ks and a 2.00 ERA.
Over on the Mariners’ side, they fell 9-3 to the Blue Jays on Tuesday but were able to bag a 9-7 win in game two. On Thursday, Seattle posted five runs in the first three innings on the way to a 7-2 victory. Starter Yusei Kikuchi was solid on 7.0 innings, five hits, one walk and one earned.
For the starter slot in the Friday game, the Mariners are sending out Logan Gilbert. This season over his 36.0 innings Gilbert has 31 hits, 17 earned runs, five homers allowed, eight walks, 39 Ks and a 4.25 ERA.
The Rangers are 15-36 in their last 51 in game one of a series and 4-12 in their last 16 Friday games. Texas is 14-47 in their last 61 road games and the over is 4-0 in their last four Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 4-1 in the last five in game one of a series and 35-16 in their last 51 at home after a road trip of a week or more. The under is 4-1 in Seattle’s last five Friday games and the under is 3-0-1 in the last four at home with the total at 9.0-10.5.
PICK: I’m going to take the Rangers. Gibson is on a nice run lately, posting three earned over his last three starts in a span of 18.1 innings. As for Gilbert, he’s posted more than two earned just once over his last six outings so I like him to pitch well here also. This one seems like a lower-scoring game to me, with Texas eking out a victory in the late innings. Should be a fun matchup overall.
