The Milwaukee Brewers and the Washington Nationals meet in the series opener of a three-game set from Nationals Park in MLB action on Monday. Two teams heading in different directions regarding the playoffs entering August, who takes game one? Let’s dig in and find out.

Brewers Get Swept By The Braves

The Milwaukee Brewers come into this series licking their wounds after a frustrating series loss to Atlanta, dropping all three meetings including an 8-6 loss in Sunday’s series finale. The loss would drop the Brewers down to 57-49, putting them back in the Wild Card race, tied for the final spot in the hunt with Miami and currently a half game back of the Reds in the NL Central race. Christian Yelich leads the Brewers with 111 hits, 59 RBIs and a .286 opponent batting average as well as a .372 OBP while Willy Adames comes in with a team-leading 17 home runs with Yelich just one off of the pace at 16. Yelich also leads the Brewers with 24 doubles while Adames has the unfortunate distinction of leading the Brewers with 109 strikeouts this season. Corbin Burnes will get the start for the Brewers here and is 9-6 with a 3.46 ERA and 131 strikeouts this season.

Chris’ Pick

I’m going with the Brewers here. It’s easier for me to forgive the series against Atlanta when I’m looking at the Brewers, as Atlanta, despite some recent struggles, has still been one of the better teams in all of baseball for much of the season. Washington had a nice run last week off of their sweep of the Giants, but are back to looking like the Nationals that have been fade machines for the better part of the season and I look for the ending to be the same here. Give me Milwaukee.
