The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals meet in an NL East division matchup in MLB action from Nationals Park on Friday night.

The New York Mets will try to build on their 4-3 win over the Marlins from Thursday. Jonathan Villar had a solo home run while Francisco Lindor added a double with an RBI and Dominic Smith had an RBI as well for the Mets. Patrick Mazeika had a pair of hits with a double and Pete Alonso had a double as well while Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil each had base hits to finish off the Mets’ offense as a team in the win. Carlos Carrasco allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jeurys Familia got the win to improve to 9-3 on the year while Edwin Diaz closed the 9th for his 28th save of the season. Rich Hill will start here and is 6-6 with a 4.11 ERA and 115 strikeouts this season.

The Washington Nationals will look to bounce back from a 7-6 loss at the hands of the Phillies on Thursday. Juan Soto led the charge, putting up three hits with four RBIs including a home run while Lane Thomas had a solo home run and Josh Bell had a double with an RBI to make up the scoring for the Nationals in the loss. Ryan Zimmerman, Alcides Escobar, Paolo Espino and Carter Kieboom all had base hits to make up the scoring for the Nationals in the losing effort. Espino allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Andrew Machado took the loss, falling to 1-1 on the year as a result. Sean Nolin will start here and is 0-2 with a 6.57 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season.

New York is 5-12 in their last 17 games overall and 2-9 in their last 11 road games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 series-opening games. Washington is 3-7 in their last 10 Friday games and 15-38 in their last 53 games overall while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games against a right-handed starter.

Yeesh. This could be the worst game of the day if we’re getting down to it. Two teams that are struggling right now, the Mets by their own hand and the Nationals because they offloaded a large chunk of their team to start the rebuild at the deadline. With that said, this game features two struggling starters in Nolin and Hill and I wouldn’t be surprised if either one was chased by the 4th inning. Give me the over here.
