Brad Stevens made his much anticipated debut as Boston’s new head coach on Wednesday night, but with that came his first loss, something he is going to have to get used to this season as the Celtics kick off their rebuilding phase. Although Boston hung around in their 93-87 loss in Toronto, they were pounded on the boards (48-33,) in particular the offensive glass, where the Raptors held a 19-7 edge. Jeff Green was the best of the Celtics in the opener, scoring a game-high 25 points while Brandon Bass chipped in with 17 of his own.
The Milwaukee Bucks fell to the New York Knicks 90-83 in their season opener on Wednesday, but there were some encouraging signs to come out of the loss. Namely the fact that the Bucks managed to rally from 25 points down to even it at 80 apiece late, all while they didn’t have a point guard to lead the comeback as Brandon Knight strained a hamstring in the opening minutes and Luke Ridnour was already out with a bad back. Instead veterans Gary Neal (16 points) and Caron Butler (14) led the way as the visitors outscored the Knicks by 18 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough.
I like the Bucks to spoil Boston's home opener in a tight one, but I like the under just a little bit more. While we all know Rondo is out for the Celtics, Milwaukee could also be without their two best point guards in Knight and Ridnour, meaning Nate Wolters could be running the show again, which isn't the worst thing in the world because he looked capable against the Knicks. I just don't see these teams both scoring over 95 points tonight, it's that simple...
