It’s been an encouraging first week for a Detroit Pistons team that has their sights squarely set on the playoffs this season. After a busy summer, expectations were high in the motor city coming into this season and the Pistons haven’t disappointed early on, winning both their home games against Washington and Boston, while narrowly going down in Memphis in overtime last weekend. New acquired Josh Smith has settled in nicely for Detroit so far, averaging 17.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.3 assist through three games while Brandon Jennings made his debut against the Celtics on Sunday, scoring 14 points off the bench in 30 minutes of action.
The Indiana Pacers have started right where they left off last season, winning all three games thus far and looking like a serious threat to dethrone the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference. The Pacers were the top defensive team from a season ago and it doesn’t look like much will change as they are ranked first in points allowed (83.7) through the first week of action. Indiana is allowing opponents to shot just 42% from the field (an NBA-low) and they held the Cleveland Cavaliers to 34.9% in their 89-74 victory on Saturday night.
There’s no doubt the Pistons are a better offensive team this season, but they always struggle against Indiana’s defense as they have average 77.5 points on 36% shooting in their last five meetings against the Pacers. The under is also 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Detroit...
