The Line: Los Angeles Lakers +3 -- Over/Under: 207 See the Latest Odds
The Los Angeles Lakers collide with the surprising Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night from STAPLES Center.
Head to head, the Trail Blazers are 31-13 ATS in the last 44 meetings, while the underdog is 30-14 ATS in the last 44 meetings. The Lakers are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall, but just 6-14-1 ATS in their last 21 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Trail Blazers on the other hand are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall, but just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games following a SU loss of more than 10 points.
Here we have two of the best against the spread teams going head-to-head as the Los Angeles Lakers have covered in seven of their nine games at STAPLES Center this season, while the Portland Trail Blazers have gone 7-2 against the spread in their nine road games to date. Both teams have also been red hot straight up as the Lakers have won two-straight and five of six overall, while Portland just had their 11-game winning streak snapped in Phoenix on Friday night.
No one should really be surprised by the Trail Blazers loss to the Suns the other night for two reasons. One, they were due for a loss sooner or later after winning a equal league-high 11 straight games. Two, they always struggle in Phoenix for some reason, having already lost there by double-digits in their season opener. In fact, Portland is lucky not to be 0-3 against Phoenix this season as they barely escaped with a home win over the Suns a couple of weeks ago.
I would of almost definitely taken the Lakers here if Portland was coming in with a 12-game winning streak. However, they lost and while there is every chance they lose two straight, you would have to assume they come out with a greater sense of urgency coming off a loss. Portland also won their previous five road games before Friday night's loss, so we know they can win away from home. LA is playing some really good team basketball at the moment, but I think Portland comes away with the victory and the cover here..
