The Brooklyn Nets have been in a slump as they’ve lost six of their last seven games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game skid after getting beaten by the shorthanded Grizzlies in a 103-98 road defeat last night. Noah Clowney and Tyrese Martin led the team in scoring with 17 points each while Danny Wolf and Jalen Wilson each scored 11 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Nets shot just 41 percent from the field and 18 of 48 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sluggish start and had to work so hard to erase an early 16-point deficit and take a four-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, only to go ice-cold and score just seven points in the final 6:16 to allow the Grizzlies off the hook.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in a real funk as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games overall and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting trampled by the Bulls in a 125-107 road defeat on Saturday. Ryan Nembhard led the team with 16 points and six assists, Naji Marshall and Jaden Hardy each scored 14 points while Cooper Flagg chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 35 from the 3-point line as they struggled to keep pace with the Bulls from the very start and allowed 36 points in the first quarter to fall behind by 11 points at halftime and things didn’t get much better in the second half where the deficit ballooned to 27 points at one stage.

The Nets are still keeping an eye on Drake Powell and Michael Porter Jr who are both listed as day to day, while the Mavericks have ruled out Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II and PJ Washington. The Nets haven’t been able to get anything going lately, but they were more than competitive against the Grizzlies last night and I like their chances if Michael Porter Jr returns to the lineup. You couldn’t back either side with any confidence at the moment, but even though the Nets are playing the second game of a back to back set, I think the Nets are decent value as the underdogs here.
