The Golden State Warriors play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Chase Center on Thursday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in great shape as they’ve won eight of their past 11 games overall and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after outlasting the Trail Blazers in a 109-107 road win on Tuesday. Anthony Edwards led the team with 40 points, nine rebounds and three blocks on 14 of 27 shooting, D’Angelo Russell added 22 points while Karl-Anthony Towns chipped in with 17 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks. As a team, the Timberwolves shot just 43 percent from the field and 14 of 43 from the 3-point line as they squandered a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter, before turning to Russell who drained the game-winner with just 2.9 seconds left on the clock.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors have been building nicely as they’ve won five of their past seven games and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after making light work of the Mavericks in a 130-92 home win on Tuesday. Jonathan Kuminga led the team in scoring with 22 points on eight of nine shooting in just 18 minutes off the bench, Stephen Curry added 18 points with nine rebounds and seven assists while Jordan Poole chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Warriors shot 53 percent from the field and 17 of 43 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with their defense, holding the Mavericks to just 20 points in the first quarter to take the early lead, before exploding for 67 points in the second half to make it a complete blowout.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games against a team above .600, 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Warriors are 22-8-2 ATS in their last 32 home games, 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 games against a team with a winning record and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a win of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the over is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall and the Timberwolves are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Golden State.
The Warriors are going to be shorthanded once again as James Wiseman, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green are all listed as out, while the Timberwolves will likely be without Patrick Beverley again. Both teams are coming into this game with plenty of momentum and the regular season series is at 1-1 currently. The Timberwolves deserve plenty of credit for how well they’ve been playing lately, so while I like the Warriors to get the win at home, I think the Timberwolves hang around long enough to get the cover in the end.
