The Houston Rockets play host to the Washington Wizards at the Toyota Center on Monday night.

The Washington Wizards have been in a terrible slump as they’ve lost nine of their last 12 games overall, but they will be hoping to build some momentum after putting an end to a six-game slide with a 127-119 home win on over the Lakers on Saturday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 27 points and five assists, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 18 points with 10 rebounds while Deni Avdija and Daniel Gafford scored 17 points apiece. As a team, the Wizards shot 51 percent from the field and 13 of 31 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sluggish start and trailed by 16 points in the first half, but they hung in the contest and made their move in the fourth quarter where they closed the final 2:10 on a decisive 12-3 run to escape with the win in the end.

Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have been ice-cold lately as they’ve lost 17 of their last 19 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a five-game slide after getting blown out by the Grizzlies in a 122-98 loss last night. Dennis Schroder led the team in scoring with 17 points and seven assists off the bench, Kenyon Martin Jr. added 15 points on six of eight shooting while Kevin Porter Jr. chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 43 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sluggish start and trailed in this one from start to finish as they couldn’t slow down the Grizzlies or protect the ball on offense as they finished with 17 turnovers.

Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 6-22-1 ATS in their last 29 games against a team with a losing record, 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 17-35-2 ATS in their last 54 games overall. The Rockets are 22-51 ATS in the last 73 home games, 17-41 ATS in their last 58 games against a team with a losing record and 12-28 ATS in their last 40 games overall.

Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Houston and the Wizards are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Houston.

The Wizards have been without Kyle Kuzma, but the good news is that he is expected to play in this one, while the Rockets will again be without Eric Gordon who is dealing with an illness. You couldn’t bet on either team with any confidence at all these days, but the Wizards looked good in their gritty win over the Lakers on Saturday and I think they should be good enough to take down an ice-cold Rockets team playing on zero days’ rest.
