The San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers collide at the Staples Center on Monday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a slump as they’ve lost five of their past eight games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped by the streaky Kings in a 121-114 road loss last night. Dejounte Murray led the team with 25 points, seven rebounds and nine assists on 11 of 17 shooting, Lonnie Walker added 19 points off the bench, Bryn Forbes added 18 points while Keldon Johnson chipped in with 16 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, the Spurs shot 49 percent from the field and 12 of 25 from the 3-point line as they worked their way back into the contest after falling behind by double-digits early, before the Kings pulled away in the fourth quarter with a decisive 14-4 run to snatch the game from them.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their past eight games, but they will be itching to get back on the court after falling to the Thunder in a heartbreaking 104-103 road loss on Saturday. Luke Kennard led the team in scoring with 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Terance Mann added 18 points while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 16 points, 10 assists and four steals. As a team, the Clippers shot 44 percent from the field and 16 of 39 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in complete control, leading by two points with just 7.8 seconds remaining, but Justise Winslow missed two crucial free throws which allowed the Thunder to steal the game on a clutch step-back 3-pointer from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 0.9 seconds remaining.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Clippers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games, 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a losing record and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
The Clippers should have Serge Ibaka back in the lineup as he is listed as probable, but they could be without Paul George who is questionable with an elbow injury. The Spurs were building some momentum before getting stopped by the Kings last night and they are certainly capable of pulling off the upset if Murray, Walker and Forbes can get hot again. I can see why the Clippers are favorites at home, but if George isn’t able to suit up, I like the Spurs with the points in this spot.
