The Los Angeles Lakers play host to the Denver Nuggets at the crypto.com Arena on Sunday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in great shape as they’ve won four of their past five games and they will be eager to stay hot after blowing past the new-look Jazz in a 117-101 win on Friday. Bones Hyland drained seven 3-pointers to lead the way with 26 points off the bench, Michael Porter Jr. added 22 points with 13 rebounds while Nikola Jokic tallied 12 points with 10 rebounds and six assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot 45 percent from the field and 17 of 37 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 35 points in the first quarter to build an early 29-point lead which allowed them to cruise in the second half.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers are still winless on the season and they will be hoping for a better showing after falling to the Timberwolves in a 111-102 road loss on Friday. LeBron James led the way with 28 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Russell Westbrook tallied 18 points with eight rebounds and three assists off the bench while Austin Reaves chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Lakers shot just 41 percent from the field and nine of 29 from the 3-point line which was good enough to hang with the Timberwolves until the fourth quarter where they leaked 33 points to allow the Timberwolves to slip away.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team below .400 and 2-7 ATS in their last nine games following a win. The Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 13-6-2 in the last 21 meetings in Los Angeles and the over is 28-11-2 in the last 41 meetings overall.
The Nuggets are going to a little shorthanded here as Davon Reed and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope are both listed as questionable, while the Lakers are keeping an eye on Juan Toscano-Anderson and Anthony Davis are both questionable. The Lakers haven’t been able to get that elusive first win this season and it doesn’t get easier for them, especially if Davis isn’t able to suit up in this one. The Nuggets are clearly the team in better form and they’re starting to get healthy again. Give me the Nuggets to take care of business in a close one here.
