The Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers duke it out at the Staples Center on Wednesday night.
The Miami Heat have been in good shape as they’ve won seven of their first 10 games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting thrashed by the Nuggets in a 113-96 road loss on Monday. Jimmy Butler led the team with 31 points and eight assists on 10 of 18 shooting, Duncan Robinson added 13 points while Bam Adebayo chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, the Heat shot just 39 percent from the field and 13 of 36 from the 3-point line as they struggled right from the start, falling behind by 15 points going into halftime, before scoring just 21 points in the third quarter to see the margin balloon to 23 points. Tyler Herro has been in great form for the Heat, but he scored just 11 points on three of 12 shooting off the bench while Kyle Lowry finished scoreless on zero of eight shooting.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent shape as they’ve won six of their past nine games and they will be eager to stay hot after outlasting the Hornets in a 126-123 overtime home win on Monday. Anthony Davis led the team with 32 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and five blocks, Carmelo Anthony provided the spark off the bench with 29 points on nine of 13 shooting while Russell Westbrook tallied a triple-double of 17 points with 12 rebounds and 14 assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 48 percent from the field and 13 of 32 from the 3-point line as they squandered a 14-point third quarter lead, before escaping with the narrow win in overtime behind their defense as they held the Hornets to just two points in the final 3:18.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a loss of more than 10 points and 5-0 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record. The Lakers are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games as an underdog, 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Head to head, the under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings overall, the Heat are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Los Angeles and the Heat are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Heat have been one of the form teams in the league and they will be eager to bounce back after getting destroyed by the Nuggets in a tough loss on Monday, but they will likely be shorthanded once again as Tyler Herro and PJ Tucker are both listed as questionable for this one. The Lakers will likely be without LeBron James again, but Rajon Rondo could make a return while Anthony Davis is listed as probable. This is a tough one to pick as there are always injury clouds looming over the Lakers, but I’m taking the Heat to bounce back in fine fashion, especially Lowry who finished scoreless on Monday.
