The Utah Jazz and the Minnesota Timberwolves collide at the Target Center on Sunday night.
The Utah Jazz have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost 10 of their past 12 games overall and they will be hoping to put an end to a four-game slide after coming up short against the Grizzlies in a 119-109 road loss on Friday. Danuel House Jr. led the team with 21 points off the bench, Mike Conley added 15 points with six assists while Bojan Bogdanovic and Jordan Clarkson each scored 13 points. As a team, the Jazz shot just 43 percent from the field and 17 of 46 from the 3-point line as they scored just 21 points in the second quarter to fall behind by eight points going into halftime and things only got worse in the second half as they just had no answer for the Grizzlies who shot over 56 percent from the field as a team.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in decent form as they’ve won eight of their past 13 games, but they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting routed by the Suns in a 134-124 road loss on Friday. Anthony Edwards led the team with 27 points, 10 assists and four steals, Malik Beasley added 26 points off the bench while Karl-Anthony Towns chipped in with 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 48 percent from the field and 14 of 39 from the 3-point line but they were sloppy on the defensive end to start the game and were always playing from behind after allowing 40 points in the first quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight road games, 0-5 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 5-16-2 ATS in their last 23 games overall. The Timberwolves are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games, 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-2-1 in the last eight meetings in Minnesota, the Jazz are 1-4-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall and the Jazz are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Minnesota.
The Jazz will again be without a couple of key players including Rudy Gobert who is out with a calf injury and maybe Donovan Mitchell who is listed as questionable. The Timberwolves will be sweating on the availability of Patrick Beverley and D’Angelo Russell who are both listed as questionable. It’s not often that you would find the Timberwolves as favorites over the Jazz, but they’ve been playing some of their best basketball of the season, while the Jazz are clearly mired in their worst slump in this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jazz snapped out of their funk with a big win here, but we haven’t seen that from them in a long time, so I’m taking the Timberwolves to get the win at home.
