The San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder collide at the Paycom Center on Sunday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in poor form as they’ve lost six of their first nine games overall, but they will be eager to build some momentum after taking down the struggling Magic in a 102-89 road loss on Friday. Dejounte Murray led the team with 20 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, Keldon Johnson added 20 points with nine rebounds while Derrick White chipped in with 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on four of 14 shooting. As a team, the Spurs shot 44 percent from the field and six of 19 from the 3-point line, but this win was about their defense as they held the Spurs to just 36 points in the first half to take a 13-point lead into halftime, before cruising in the second half as the Magic never threatened.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been in a rut as they’ve lost six of their first eight games but they will be eager to build some momentum here after rallying past the Lakers in a 107-104 road win on Thursday. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team with 28 points and six assists, Luguentz Dort added 17 points while Darius Bazley and Ty Jerome each scored 14 points. As a team, the Thunder shot 42 percent from the field and 15 of 41 from the 3-point line as they struggled early on and trailed by as many as 19 points, before rallying back with 35 points in the fourth quarter to escape with the unlikely victory.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 road games, 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Thunder are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games as an underdog and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings overall and the Spurs are 7-18 ATS in the last 25 meetings in Oklahoma City.
The Spurs haven’t been terrible this season, but they just haven’t been able to get going this season and it’s hard to get too excited about a win over the slumping Magic these days. The Thunder have lost to everyone except for the Lakers who they’ve now beaten twice this season after trailing big, so who knows what we’re going to see from them here. The Thunder will be buzzing following their latest win and they will be well-rested as they haven’t played since Thursday, but I’m sticking with the more reliable Spurs to get their second straight win here.
