The Denver Nuggets invade the Footprint Center to take on the red-hot Phoenix Suns on Sunday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in a bit of a rut as they will be hoping to arrest a three-game slide after getting stopped by the Bulls in a 114-108 home loss on Friday. Aaron Gordon led the team with 28 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Will Barton added 23 points while Frank Campazzo chipped in with 16 points and four assists off the bench. As a team, the Nuggets shot 47 percent from the field and 14 of 37 from the 3-point line as they as they rode the hot hand of Gordon to stay in the contest in the first half, but they allowed 35 points in the third quarter to fall behind by 12 points which was too much to overcome with so many key players missing. Gordon shot an impressive 10 of 12 from the field but Jeff Green and Monte Morris each shot three of 10 from the field while JaMychal Green shot just one of six from the field.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have been on fire lately as they will be looking to build on their current 11-game win streak after outlasting the shorthanded Mavericks in a 112-104 home win on Friday. Devin Booker led the team in scoring with 19 points on seven of 20 shooting, Mikal Bridges added 19 points on seven of seven shooting while Chris Paul tallied 18 points with 14 assists. As a team, the Suns shot 51 percent from the field and 14 of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled to shake the pesky Mavericks and trailed by six points late in the third quarter, before taking over in the fourth quarter where they opened with a 15-2 run to win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a loss. The Suns are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Phoenix and the Nuggets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Suns come into this one as obvious favorites at home as they’re riding an 11-game win streak while going up against a shorthanded Nuggets team who could be without their best player in Jokic once again. However, while the Suns are still playing well, their win streak has really put a target on their backs, so I think we’re going to see the Nuggets really go after it in this one. I’d still take the Suns if I had to pick, but this is one game I’d rather stay away from.
