The Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings meet Monday in NBA preseason action at the Golden 1 Center. The Phoenix Suns will be out to prove last year was no fluke, as they won 51 games and made the NBA Finals. The Sacramento Kings won 31 games last year and are still looking for their first playoff trip since the 2005-06 season.
The Phoenix Suns didn’t do a ton this offseason, as they lost Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig, while adding JaVale McGee, Elfrid Payton and Landry Shamet. That’s it for your Suns. The Suns are such a young team and the contracts lined up nicely to where the core of Deandre Ayton, Devin Booker, Chris Paul and Mikal Bridges remains intact. In fact, CP3, McGee and Jae Crowder are the only players on this Suns squad that are 30 years old or older. At 27, even Cameron Payne returns for his backup point guard role after giving the Suns big minutes throughout their postseason run. The Suns now have all the pieces in place, it’s just going to be interesting to see if they can now achieve success with increased expectations.
The Sacramento Kings didn’t do much to improve their roster this offseason outside of using a lottery pick on Davion Mitchell and bringing in Alex Len for front court depth. The good news for the Kings is that they didn’t lose anybody noteworthy. A backcourt of De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield is still intact despite trade rumors and Harrison Barnes is back after one of the better seasons of his career. Richaun Holmes has clearly found himself these last two seasons and a healthy Marvin Bagley III certainly raises the Kings ceiling. It will also be interesting to see any improvements from Tyrese Haliburton, who flashed serious promise as a rookie and even started 20 games last year. The Kings are desperate to end the postseason drought and there’s potential here to push the bottom playoff contenders.
The Suns are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Monday games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Kings are 7-15-1 ATS in their last 23 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The over is 5-2-1 in Suns last 8 overall. The under is 26-10 in Kings last 36 overall. The under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.
The Phoenix Suns are a tough team to bet against after what they showed us last year and with all of the returning players. However, I do question how much playing time key players for the Suns get. The Sacramento Kings are a young team with a lot of players fighting for playing time and they’ve won five of their last seven preseason games. You can make money on teams like the Kings throughout the preseason.
Give me the Kings and whatever the line is…
