The Portland Trail Blazers and the San Antonio Spurs duke it out once again at the AT&T Center on Sunday night.
The Portland Trail Blazers have been ice-cold lately as they’ve lost 10 of their last 11 games and they will be hoping to put an end to a six-game slide after getting thrashed by the Spurs in a 130-111 road loss on Friday. Keon Johnson led the team with 20 points, Brandon Williams added 17 points while Drew Eubanks and Greg Brown each scored 13 points. As a team, the Trail Blazers shot 44 percent from the field and 15 of 35 from the 3-point line as they got off to a poor start and never looked in the contest after falling behind by 77-49 going into halftime. The team defense was poor throughout and CJ Elleby had himself a night to forget as he finished scoreless on zero of eight shooting.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in fine form as they’ve won five of their last six games and they will be looking to stay hot after blowing past the Trail Blazers on Friday. Devin Vassell led the team with 22 points, Keldon Johnson added 21 points with six assists while Zach Collins chipped in with 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists off the bench. As a team, the Spurs shot a healthy 56 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they dominated right from the start and exploded for 43 points in the second quarter to build an unassailable, which allowed them to cruise in the second half and rest some starters early.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trail Blazers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Spurs are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games, 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in San Antonio and the Trail Blazers are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Trail Blazers are going to be severely shorthanded once again as Josh Hart, Justise Winslow and Anfernee Simons are all listed as out, while the Spurs are keeping an eye on Dejounte Murray and Joshua Primo who are both questionable. The Spurs faced little resistance in their big win over the Trail Blazers on Friday and I’m expecting a similar result in this one as the Spurs should have more than enough depth to get the job done at home again.
