The Charlotte Hornets and the Utah Jazz collide at the Vivint Arena on Monday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost eight of their last 11 games overall, but they will be gunning for a third straight win here after taking down the Hawks in a thrilling 122-118 road win on Saturday. Terry Rozier led the team in scoring with 34 points and five assists, Mason Plumlee added 25 points with 11 rebounds while PJ Washington chipped in with 23 points, six rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 50 percent from the field and 13 of 34 from the 3-point line as they struggled to contain the Hawks early on and fell behind by as many as 19 points, but they didn’t give up and exploded for 73 points in the second half to pull off one of their best comebacks wins of the season.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their last six games, but they will be hoping to bounce back here after getting routed by the Nets in a 117-106 loss on Friday. Jordan Clarkson led the team with 29 points and five assists, Lauri Markkanen added 22 points with 11 rebounds while Collin Sexton chipped in with 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Jazz shot 42 percent from the field and 16 of 39 from the 3-point line as they poured in 33 points in the second quarter to take a four-point lead into halftime, only to get blown away by 66-51 in the second half as they just had no answer for the Nets’ Kyrie Irving who torched them for 48 points on 18 of 29 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a win and 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on one days rest. The Jazz are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a loss, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss of more than 10 points and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under ins 9-2 in the last 11 meetings in Utah and the Hornets are 3-11-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Utah.
The Hornets have listed Cody Martin as doubtful and LaMelo Ball is currently listed as questionable, while the Jazz will again be missing Kelly Olynyk who is still out with that ankle injury. The Hornets have come to life with two wins in a row and their comeback win over the Hawks on Saturday was particularly impressive given that they were trailing by 19 points at one stage. The Jazz are coming into this one fresh off a tough loss to the Nets, but they were playing some good basketball before that loss and I think they should be able to bounce back here. The Hornets are only 3-11-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Utah and I think that trend continues as the Jazz win and cover at home.
