The Carolina Panthers are coming off of a tie last week in Cincinnati and are 3-2-1 for the season that is good enough for first place in the NFC South. The Panthers offense is averaging 23.5 points per game and 343.8 yards and are led by QB Cam Newton who has seven touchdown passes and two interceptions but he has also rushed for a 4.8 yards per carry average. James Stewart and DeAngelo Williams have been out so recently is has been Darrin Reaves but he is averaging just 2.5 yards per carry. Greg Olsen has 33 receptions and five touchdowns to lead the Panthers in receiving and Kelvin Benjamin has 31 catches and four touchdowns. The Panthers defense allows an uncharacteristic 26.2 points and 392.5 yards per game but they are plus five in turnover ratio. Luke Keuchly has 74 tackles, Mario Addison has 4.0 sacks, and Roman Harper has three interceptions. The Panthers have played well the past two weeks after it looked like the wheels may be coming off of the cart.
Green Bay is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five games, 5-2 against the spread against the NFC, and 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight home games. Carolina is 10-3 against the spread against the NFC, 4-0 against the spread after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game, and 1-3-1 against the spread after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game. The underdog has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two.
This looks to be just two many points in a game that should be like a playoff game and while the Packers numbers look better, they aren’t good enough to justify giving a touchdown to the Panthers.
