The Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys square off Saturday night in week 1 NFL preseason action from Empower Field at Mile High.

The Dallas Cowboys will look to build on a successful 2021 season, finishing the year at 12-5 and winning the NFC East division title. The Cowboys’ stay in the postseason was short-lived though, as the Cowboys were bounced in the wild card round by the San Francisco 49ers. Dak Prescott will once again lead the way for Dallas under center and will be flanked by Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard in the Cowboys’ backfield. CeeDee Lamb leads Dallas’ receiving group but has incoming youth coming from guys like Jalen Tolbert and Jaquarii Roberson as rookies. Dalton Schultz will also look to provide a safety valve for the Cowboys and Dak Prescott at tight end. On defense, Dante Fowler and DeMarcus Lawrence lead the Cowboys’ front line while Jabril Cox, Micah Parsons and Leighton Vander Esch lead a loaded Dallas linebacking group. Trevon Diggs headlines the Cowboys’ secondary along with Jayron Kearse among others tasked with making Dallas’ secondary a no fly zone for opposing offenses.

The Denver Broncos will look to build on yet another frustrating campaign after finishing 7-10 on the year and missing the playoffs for the 6th straight season. The remedy started by the Broncos making a mega move to acquire Russell Wilson from Seattle, who leads the charge at QB ahead of Josh Johnson and Brett Rypien. Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams will still make up the 1-2 punch in Denver’s backfield, while Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and K.J. Hamler compose a strong foundation for the Broncos’ receiving group. Defensively, McTelvin Agim leads the d-line while Bradley Chubb and Alex Singleton are two of the marquee names for Denver’s linebacking group. Kareem Jackson, Justin Simmons and Patrick Surtain II also are three key names for the Broncos’ secondary this season.

Simply put, I’m somewhat high on the Broncos long term as they now have a competent QB, but for this game, I don’t like the depth the Broncos bring to the table, especially at QB and depth is of the utmost importance when it comes to betting preseason football. I don’t love Ben DiNucci and Cooper Rush, but they have experience at the starter level and have what it takes to help push the Cowboys over the edge here. Give me Dallas in this one.
