The Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers square off Sunday in week 6 NFL action from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The 49ers are 3-2 on the young season so far and coming off a big win over the Panthers. As for Atlanta, they’re sitting at 2-3 so far. The Falcons took a six-point loss to the Buccaneers in their last game. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.
San Francisco started out their 2022 campaign with a 19-10 loss to the Bears, but they were able to bounce back with a 27-7 win over the Seahawks the next week. The 49ers would then lose 11-10 to the Broncos before a 24-9 win over the Rams.
In the Panthers matchup back on Sunday, the 49ers didn’t have a ton of trouble. San Francisco scored in every quarter on the way to a 37-15 blowout win. QB Jimmy Garoppolo put up 253 yards with two touchdowns, and Jeffrey Wilson added 17 carries for 120 yards and a score.
Over on the Falcons’ side, their 2022 season began with a couple of tough losses: first was 27-26 versus the Saints, then a 31-27 loss to the Rams. Atlanta came back with wins the next two weeks though, 27-23 versus the Seahawks and 23-20 over the Browns.
In game five versus the Buccaneers, Atlanta was down 21-0 heading into the fourth quarter. The Falcons outscored Tampa 15-0 from there and made a game of it but still lost 20-15. QB Marcus Mariota managed 147 yards and a TD while also leading the rush on 61 yards.
San Francisco is 4-0 ATS in the last four in week six and 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. The 49ers are 8-1 ATS in their last nine versus the NFC.
Meanwhile, the Falcons are 5-0 ATS in their last five overall and 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. Atlanta is 4-0 ATS in the last four versus the NFC.
PICK: I’m probably staying with San Francisco. The 49ers have a few areas to clean up from their win over the Panthers, but overall it was a solid game versus an overmatched opponent. San Francisco posted 397 total yards in that one with 22 first downs and nine penalties.
As for the Falcons, they gave up 420 total yards (351 passing) and 26 first downs to the Buccaneers over the weekend. Atlanta collected only 261 total yards (110 passing) themselves but otherwise took care of the ball pretty well on zero turnovers. I like the Falcons to hang around for a while in this one before ultimately missing the cover.
