In this article we will formulate a Houston Texans vs NY Giants prediction for this NFL Preseason game on Saturday, August 17th at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this preseason battle in week two.

Houston Texans Betting Preview

The Houston Texans are 1-1 in the preseason so far, but they are coming off of a 20-12 win against the Steelers. Houston led 17-0 at halftime, but they were out scored 12-3 in the second half. Houston was out gained by a total of 344-255 in total yards and they allowed 235 passing yards to the Steelers. CJ Stroud went 2-4 with 41 yards and a touchdown, while Davis Mills added 89 passing yards. Case Keenum and Tim Boyle also saw action under center, with Keenum throwing for 40 yards and Boyle throwing for 28. Houston also played in the Hall of Fame game a couple of weeks ago, but they were trailing 21-17 against the Bears when the game was called due to weather.

Houston went 2-1 in the preseason last year, which began with a 20-9 win over New England, before losing 28-3 to Miami in the second game. The Texans defeated New Orleans by a score of 17-13 in the finale. We should see Stroud for about the same amount of time that he played last week, but I do think we could see more of Mills and Keenum, and less of Boyle.

NY Giants Betting Preview

The New York Giants are 1-0 this preseason after they defeated the Detroit Lions by a score of 14-3 last week. New York fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter, but they scored 14 points in the second quarter to get the win. The Giants got a 48 yard touchdown run from Eric Gray and a one yard touchdown run from Gray in the second quarter. New York out gained Detroit by a total of 250-228, but they only threw for 95 passing yards. Tommy DeVito went 8-15 with 92 yards, while Drew Locke went 4-10 with 17 yards and one interception.

New York went 1-2 in the 2023 preseason, which started with a 21-16 loss against Detroit. The Giants bounced back with 21-19 win over Carolina in week two, before losing 32-24 against the Jets in the last game. We could see Daniel Jones play a series or two in this game, but we should see plenty of Tommy DeVito, especially with Drew Locke nursing a hip injury.

Houston Texans vs NY Giants Prediction

Houston had the benefit of playing in the Hall of Fame game to start the preseason, so they were able to make some adjustments and pick up the win in their second game. New York’s defense played well against Detroit, but their offense needs improvement. With Drew Locke dealing with an injury, we could see more of Tommy DeVito in this game for the Giants. Houston will most likely start Stroud again, before handing the bulk of the duties to Keenum and Mills. I think Houston’s backup quarterback situation is better than New York’s, so my Houston Texans vs NY Giants prediction is for the Texans to cover.
