The Green Bay Packers and the Indianapolis Colts meet Saturday in NFL preseason action from Lucas Oil Stadium. This will be the second exhibition game for both teams. Here’s a Colts vs Packers prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Colts vs Packers pick.

Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

The Packers were able to take a step forward in the win column last season, however their playoffs run ended abruptly. Green Bay improved on their 9-8 record from 2023, finishing at 11-6 overall. Interestingly enough, the Packers won their 800th regular-season game during that run (against the Colts, in fact), the first NFL team in history to reach that milestone. The 11 wins didn’t get Green Bay to the top of the mountain in the division however, landing in third place among a competitive NFC North with teams like the Vikings. The Packers’ only playoff appearance was a Wild Card Game loss 22-10 versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

Green Bay has seen a bit of action in the preseason with their first appearance. There wasn’t much scoring to speak of in that matchup with the New York Jets, however. The Packers gave up points in every quarter, ultimately falling by a pretty significant margin 30-10. Malik Willis did most of the passing work during the defeat, going 4-for-9 for 39 yards. Jordan Love added just one completion in five attempts, totaling seven yards. Leading the way on the ground as one of the few offensive bright spots was Amar Johnson who ran for 67 yards and a TD on seven carries. Will Sheppard was the team’s top receiver, catching two balls for 20 yards. Ben Sims and John FitzPatrick each snagged a 17-yard reception for themselves.

Indianapolis Colts Betting Preview

Over on the Colts’ side, they’ve got some work to do in order to surpass a pretty mediocre (to put it mildly) 2024 campaign. Indianapolis wasn’t able to reach the nine wins of 2023, going 8-9 overall in the record column. Indy started out at 4-3 overall thanks to a nice five-game run, but failed to win consecutive games the rest of the way. The Colts were officially eliminated from playoff contention in Week 17 thanks to an upset loss to the lowly New York Giants. The result was a second-place finish in the AFC South and another postseason spent on the golf course.

The Colts took on the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday in their first preseason action of the year. Indianapolis failed to score in the fourth quarter and couldn’t climb out of a 21-9 first half hole, eventually losing 24-16 on the road. QB Daniel Jones finished with a 10-of-21 line for 144 yards. Riley Leonard did quite a bit of throwing work as well with his 12-of-24 effort for 92 yards and a pick. Leading receiver Ashton Dulin managed three catches for 54 yards, while Tyler Warren added three grabs for 40 yards. Ulysses Bentley led the team on the ground with seven carries for 35 yards. Riley Leonard added four totes for 34 yards, and Khalil Herbert scored the only touchdown among his seven rushes for 29 yards.

Colts vs Packers Prediction

I’m going to take a stab on the Colts here. That said, it’s preseason, so the outcome is anyone’s guess. Still, Indianapolis didn’t look terrible in their first exhibition action of the season. The team totaled 366 yards (240 passing) and 4.7 yards per play, alongside 19 first downs and a 6-of-19 rate on third-down conversions. On defense, the Colts’ numbers looked even better, as they held the Ravens to just 226 yards (49 passing), 3.8 yards per play and 15 first downs. Indy also came up with a couple of interceptions. The major blemish, however, came from nine penalties for 107 yards. Provided the Colts can clean that up here (and put in another nice defensive effort) I think they’ll be looking good.
