The Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans clash Sunday in week 5 NFL action from EverBank Field. Houston is fresh off a 10-point loss to the Chargers, sending the team to 0-3-1. As for Jacksonville, they’re 2-2 thus far following an eight-point loss to the Eagles over the weekend. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.

Houston started off their 2022 campaign with a 20-20 tie versus the Colts. In game two the Texans couldn’t fins much success against Denver in a 16-9 defeat. Houston would get close against the Bears in week three but the team still lost 23-20.

In last weekend’s matchup versus the Chargers, the Texans gave up 20 points in the second quarter alone during a 34-24 loss. QB Davis Mills managed 246 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, and Dameon Pierce added 14 carries for 131 yards and a score.

Over on the Jaguars’ side, their first game of the year was a 28-22 loss to Washington. Jacksonville would get it together in game two against the Colts with a 24-0 victory, and the run continued with a nice 38-10 win over the Chargers in game three.

The Jaguars were knocked back to .500 after the matchup versus the Eagles. That one started well with a 14-0 lead for Jacksonville, but the team lost 29-21. QB Trevor Lawrence finished with 174 yards, two scores and a pick. Jamal Agnew caught four balls for 50 yards and two scores as well.

The Texans are 5-1 ATS in their last six versus the AFC and 4-1 ATS in their last five versus the AFC South. Houston is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 in October.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 3-11 ATS in the last 14 on grass and 5-17 ATS in their last 22 in October. Jacksonville is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Houston in this one. The Texans need something of a bounce-back effort after their loss to the Chargers, though. Houston put up 346 yards of offense in that one with just 16 first downs, two interceptions, nine penalties and a 4-of-12 rate on third-down tries. The game probably shouldn’t have been as close as it was.

As for Jacksonville, they had just 219 yards of offense, 13 first downs and five turnovers (four fumbles) in their loss to the Eagles. Needless to say, there’s plenty to work on this week. That said, I think the Jaguars will win this one with Houston eking into a cover.
