San Francisco kicked off their preseason activity with a matchup versus the Packers. In that one, the 49ers turned a 20-14 halftime lead into a 28-21 victory. QB Nate Sudfeld posted 103 yards and a TD, while Danny Gray managed 99 yards and a score off two catches.
In Saturday’s matchup versus the Vikings, San Francisco trailed by a point at the break but ultimately put up 11 points in the fourth for a 17-7 win. Nate Sudfeld went 13-of-17 for 102 yards and a score; Tanner Hudson caught five balls for 43 yards.
Over on the Houston side, they kicked things off with a preseason matchup versus the Saints. The Texans put up a fourth-quarter score that was the decisive blow in a 17-13 win. Jeff Driskel managed 165 yards with two TDs and three picks. Jalen Camp led the receivers on 53 yards and a TD.
In game two versus the Rams back on Friday, the Texans were able to keep it going with a 24-20 win thanks to 10 points in the final quarter. Davis Mills finished with 96 yards and a score on 10-of-17 passing, and Nico Collins caught four balls for 48 yards and a touchdown.
PICK: I’m going to try the Texans here. Houston has been scoring pretty well so far this preseason, with 41 points across two games. In the Rams matchup Houston had a couple of miscues and letdowns (two lost fumbles, 159 passing yards, etc.) but they were still able to power out the victory.
As for San Francisco, they did well Saturday versus the Vikings, holding them to just 195 total yards, three turnovers and 2-of-11 on third-down tries. The 49ers held the ball a whopping 37:45 but also committed 10 penalties. San Francisco should make this matchup pretty interesting with another performance like that.
