The Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans meet Sunday in NFL action from Nissan Stadium. Houston is currently 7-6 overall and coming off a rough loss to the lowly Jets. As for Tennessee, they’re fresh off a matchup versus the Dolphins on Monday. In that one the Titans posted an epic comeback win to improve to 5-8 on the year. Let’s get into our Texans vs. Titans prediction. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.

Houston Texans

The Texans have been a mixed bag this year, shuffling rough losses with solid wins. Houston is averaging 22.1 points per game so far, and allowing 21.5 points per game on defense. In the passing game, the Texans have gotten 21 touchdowns and five interceptions. On the ground it’s been rougher though: 96.6 yards per game and just nine scores.

Houston faced off against the struggling Jets in their last matchup, and things didn’t go very well. After a scoreless first half, the Texans were drilled 30-6 the rest of the way for an ugly loss. CJ Stroud threw for just 91 yards, while Devin Singletary led the rush with 65 yards and a TD. Brevin Jordan added 35 yards from three catches.

Houston Texans Team Facts

  • The Texans have won each of their last six games as road underdogs against AFC South opponents.
  • The Texans have covered the spread in each of their last six road games against AFC South opponents.
  • The Texans have won the first quarter in four of their last five December games as underdogs against AFC opponents.
  • The Texans have won the first half in each of their last six games as underdogs following a loss.
  • The Texans have scored the first touchdown in each of their last four games following a loss.

Tennessee Titans

Over on the Titans’ side, they lost eight of their first 12 games. Tennessee’s only wins in that time came versus the Chargers, Bengals, Falcons and Panthers. That resulted in an average of just 17.8 points per game with 21.3 points allowed on the other side. Tennessee got only 183.2 yards per game, 10 scores and eight picks through the passing game in those dozen outings.

On Monday versus the Dolphins, the Titans were down by 14 points in the final three minutes of the game. Tennessee stormed back on two late TD drives and powered out an amazing comeback win 28-27. QB Will Levis posted 327 yards with one TD and one interception, while Derrick Henry rushed for 34 yards and two scores. DeAndre Hopkins caught seven balls for 124 yards and a TD.

Tennessee Titans Team Facts

  • The Titans have lost each of their last six games against AFC South opponents.
  • The Titans have failed to cover the spread in each of their last five games following a win.
  • The Titans have won the first quarter in each of their last two home games against teams that held a winning record.
  • The road team has won the first half in seven of the last eight games between the Texans and Titans.
  • The Titans have scored the first touchdown in nine of their last 10 home games against AFC South opponents.

Matchup/League Facts

  • The Titans rank 32nd in the NFL in interceptions this season (3).
  • The Titans rank 1st in the NFL in average yards per punt this season (52.3).
  • The Texans rank 1st in the NFL in Q2 opponent points per game this season (3.3).
  • The Texans rank 32nd in the NFL in Q3 opponent points per game this season (7.2).

ANDREW’S FREE TEXANS VS TITANS PREDICTION

I’ll take a stab on Tennessee. Probably not touching this one, though. The Texans are coming off an embarrassing second half versus the struggling Jets, ultimately compiling just 135 total yards (54 passing) and 10 first downs in their lowest points total of the season. Houston hasn’t cracked 22 points for four straight games either.

As for the Titans, on Monday they pulled off one of the most improbable comebacks in recent memory, winning the game in spite of three turnovers, nine penalties and a sketchy 5-of-13 rate on third-down tries. That makes a 2-1 run in the last three outings with an OT loss as the lone blemish. I’m not sure Tennessee can keep it going here, but you could make a good case for it.
