The Jets and Panthers meet up in Sunrise, Florida as both teams look to improve their standing in the league table.
The Jets are one of the more frustrating teams in the league as they have a roster that is playoff capable and while they still should qualify for the second season they haven’t expressed that sense of urgency or confidence yet this season. Winnipeg is team on the rise no question but they have the pieces in place now to win and that was the message we got yesterday from Jets captain Andrew Ladd who discussed his team’s chances at winning this season and not looking to the future. The Jets have a grinder type team up front led by Ladd, Brian Little, and Evander Kane but they have three solid lines and an energy line plus a great defensive unit and two underrated goalies. It looks like Ondrej Pavelec will get the call here who has been playing much better of late but if he stumbles I don’t anticipate the Jets will be shy in going with Al Montoya who one of the better backups in the league.

The Panthers are a mess and even in games where they look like they have a shot to net a victory they somehow find ways to lose and that will be the story for this team for the rest of this season at the very least. They do have some young talent but not nearly enough experience or depth to contend with anyone in their division and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see the Panthers in the running to land the top draft pick in July’s entry draft. Tim Thomas came to Florida to get a second chance at playing in the NHL but with the way his team has played in front of him he may have been better off staying retired and who knows what his future will hold beyond this season. I have been bitten hard a couple times by this Jets team but this is a good spot to regain some credibility and I think they come into Florida and play one of their best games this season.
