The Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars meet in game six of their best-of-seven Western Conference semi-final series in NHL action from Rogers Place on Wednesday.

The Colorado Avalanche come into this game looking to force a game seven after clawing back into the series and avoiding elimination with a 6-3 win over the Stars in game five last time out.

It was all Colorado early as Pierre-Edouard Bellemare opened the scoring for the Avs less than five minutes into the game and then just after the halfway point of the first, Colorado took over with four goals in a span of 2:36 with Andre Burakovsky scoring at 11:51, Nathan MacKinnon scoring :41 after, followed by Nazem Kadri 1:11 after that and Mikko Rantanen :44 after Kadri’s goal to push the lead to 5-0 after twenty minutes of play. Joe Pavelski got Dallas on the board just inside of eight minutes into the middle period and Miro Heiskanen brought it to 5-2 with 2:29 to go in the second, but Burakovsky would restored the four-goal lead :33 later. Jamie Benn added a consolation goal with just under six minutes to go in the 3rd, but that’s as close as the Stars got the rest of the way as Colorado coasted to the finish line.

Michael Hutchinson got the win for Colorado after stopping 31 of 34 shots in goal while Ben Bishop took the loss for the Stars between the pipes after allowing 4 goals on 19 shots before being pulled in the first period.

Colorado is 17-8 in their last 25 games overall and 7-19 in their last 26 conference semi-final games while the over is 8-0 in their last 8 games overall. Dallas is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. Colorado is 3-7 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and the over is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings as well.

The Stars may have picked up a smidgeon of momentum from scoring three of the last four goals against the Avs, but for all intents and purposes that gave was already done and Colorado was just coasting to the finish and looking ahead to game six. I think the momentum has completely swung in Colorado’s favor, and Dallas’ best chance to close may have come and gone. I think given what happened in game five, laying the juice with the Avs to force game seven sounds like a strong bet. However my stronger play is on the total and I have that available as a premium pick that you can find here.
