We start today’s action in the NHL with the Capitals vs Avalanche Player Prop Bets for Wednesday, January 24.

The Washington Capitals are coming to Denver with hopes of avoiding the fourth straight road defeat, while the Colorado Avalanche are looking for the tenth home victory in 11 games.

Capitals vs Avalanche Player Prop Bets – Mikko Rantanen Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-120)

Mikko Rantanen is the second fiddle in Colorado behind monstrous Nathan MacKinnon, whose odds are so low that I decided to avoid betting on him today. Mikko is the team’s second point-maker with 60 and is joint top-scorer with 26 goals so far.

Rantanen averages 3.40 shots per game. After getting 4+ shots for five straight games, Mikko attempted just two shots combined in his last two outings. I expect him to return to his usual on Wednesday against the Capitals, who conceded 3+ goals in five of the previous six road games. Interestingly, Rantanen scored two goals from his two shots against the Flyers in the most recent showing.

The Avalanche are the second highest-scoring team in the NHL with 3.77 goals per game on average. They attempt 32 shots on goal per game, and I am going with Rantanen to have at least four in this one.

Ross Colton Under 0.5 Points (-135)

For the second pick of the Capitals vs Avalanche Player Prop Bets, I have another home team player.  Ross Colton is coming off the best game of his career and a three-assist performance against the Flyers. That was the only third multi-point game of the year for Colorado’s center, so I expect him to come back down to earth on Wednesday.

Colton recorded 23 points in 45 games so far, which means that he records a point every two games. Given he had three the last time out, I don’t think he will get one against the Capitals.

In six games against Washington in his career, Colton has just one point. He averaged 12:17 TOI against the Caps, and although his time on ice went higher in the last five games, I expect a dud from Colton here.
