In this article we will formulate a Detroit Red Wings vs Pittsburgh Penguins prediction for this NHL game on Thursday, October 10th at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this NHL matchup.

Detroit Red Wings Betting Preview

The Detroit Red Wings went 41-32-9 last season and they finished with 91 points, which put them in fifth place in the Atlantic Division. Detroit went on a crazy run in the middle of last season which put them in position to fight for a playoff spot, but they lost seven in a row near the end of the season, which put them on the outside looking in. The Wings did win four of their last six games to end the year, but came up just shy of a playoff spot. Detroit is going with Ville Husso in net, who missed most of last season with an injury. Dylan Larkin does return for the Red Wings, who scored 33 goals and 36 assists last year.

Detroit went 3-5 in the preseason this year, with wins over Chicago (twice) and Pittsburgh. The Red Wings opened the preseason with two wins over the Blackhawks, but they went just 1-5 in the last six games and scored two goals or fewer in four of those games.

Pittsburgh Penguins Betting Preview

The Pittsburgh Penguins are 0-1-0 this year after they lost to the Rangers by a score of 6-0 on Wednesday. Pittsburgh trailed 3-0 at the end of one, 4-0 at the end of two, and they allowed two goals in the third in the blowout loss. The Penguins were out shot by a total of 41-29, recorded 23 hits, and went 0-3 on the power play in the game. There wasn’t much to be happy about in this game for Pittsburgh, but Crosby did record two shots on goal in the game. Tristan Jarry allowed six goals on 41 shots, which was an .854 save percentage.

Pittsburgh is expected to start Joel Blomqvist in this game, who is a young goalie from Finland. In the preseason, Pittsburgh went 4-3 with wins over Ottawa, Detroit, and Columbus (twice). The Penguins did finish the preseason by winning four of their last five games.

Why the Red Wings will beat the Penguins

  • The Red Wings have won each of their last three games.
  • The Red Wings have covered the puck line in nine of their last 10 home openers.
  • The Red Wings have won the second period in six of their last seven home games against Metropolitan Division opponents.

Total Goals Facts

  • Each of the Red Wings’ last four games have gone OVER the total goals line.
  • The ‘Over 1.5 Goals Period 2′ market has hit in each of the Red Wings’ last 12 night games.

Detroit Red Wings Player Prop Facts

  • Patrick Kane has recorded at least one point in each of his last 12 appearances with the Red Wings as home favorites.
  • Dylan Larkin has recorded at least one assist in each of the Red Wings’ last four games.
  • Patrick Kane has scored at least one goal in four of his last five appearances with the Red Wings as favorites against Metropolitan Division opponents.

Detroit Red Wings vs Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction

Detroit comes into this season after just missing out on the playoffs last year, and they need to work on being more consistent over the course of an entire season. Pittsburgh also just missed out on the postseason last year, but they started their season with a 6-0 loss on Wednesday night. It is never easy to play a back to back, but doing so right at the beginning of the season is brutal. The Penguins have some older players on their team and I worry about their conditioning this early in the season, especially against a younger Detroit team. Take the Red Wings at home.
