Pierre-Hugues Herbert looks to find some luck in his Single's career on the ATP Tour as he meets Maxime Cressy in the first round of the 2021 Great Ocean Road Open on Monday, February 1st 2021. Will Pierre-Hugues be able to get some redemption after his last Single's match in which he lost after having 5 match points on his serve, or will yet another bump in confidence hit him with an upset by the young American Cressy?
Maxime Cressy is an up and coming young American who has been playing a few ATP 250 first round matches over the last year. Cressy will want to make a name for himself over 2021, and he knows that in the first round of tournaments, especially at the beginning of the year, will be a great chance for him to catch someone who is still trying to wear off the rust. Will Cressy be able to do this against PHH, or will the experienced Frenchman be too much for the young American?
Pierre-Hugues Herbert desperately needs to get some momentum going in his Single's career as he has struggled recently. Herbert played at the Antalya Open, in which he met David Goffin in the second round and absolutely dominated the Belgian. Pierre-Hugues was serving for the match in the second set, 40-0 up, and ended up losing the game after having 5 match points in that game. This shook the Frenchman up, and you could hear in his words how unsatisfied he was with his Single's career. Herbert has been a great Double's player throughout his career, and has won some of the biggest titles in the sport, but he has not had the same luck in the Single's. Will something change in 2021, or will it be the same old story for the Frenchman?
This is going to be the first meeting between both players, and I think that Pierre-Hugues Herbert is finally going to get some solid matches under his belt. Herbert is a tough opponent for anyone to come against, and he just needs to improve his closing of matches in tight situations. An easy opponent like Maxime Cressy will allow the Frenchman to gain some confidence, make the second round here at the Great Ocean Road Open, and prepare himself strongly prior to the Australian Open. PHH to win.
